the plot.
it is an unspoken wisdom that has become more obviously known over the years: humans either fear what they don't understand or try their damndest to understand them. yes, it is quite true. it's the reason why we send so many probes and researching equipment out into space and down under to sea, and why we seek out to destroy anything we percieve as a threat to us, even if it's not one. we also try to understand things within ourselves that make us human, then make sure no other creature has those traits.
this fact is why war exists. it's also why medicine exists. so many good and bad things have come from it that it's easy to see why most people don't question this fact and allow the quest to understand to continue.
war. one of those tragic things that can go on for many, many years, even if it's not on as big of a scale as the world wars. which is exactly what has been going on. all over the world, the humans have been fighting species not so unlike them, just because they wanted control. this has also caused war within those humanoid species, making it a very bloody battle with multiple sides that's only just started to decrease.
new international laws have been passed to prevent outbreaks of these wars. killing of a member of a species different than yours will get you automatic life in prison, regardless of intent. weapons capable of killing nonhumans have been very closely monitored and put under a very difficult licensing process. nonhumans are starting to be able to run for office in many democratic countries. there was even an american law passed, called the "species confidentiality policy", stating that no living humanoid thing has to identify itself as anything but human. all in all, the equality of the species world-wide is about as close to "true equality" as you can get, especially in america.
st. louis has always been a place of acceptance for different races and nationalities and species, even if the outer towns were less kind to those different than them. while interspecies crime rates are at a recent low, there are still disputes and still a little mistreatment. that is to be expected, though. all humanoid species have been existing in an almost-harmony for years in the gateway to the west, and it doesn't look like things are about to change.
but peace doesn't last forever, does it?
Anything Goes is a modern roleplay where anything humanoid can be created (a full list of approved charatcers can be found on the canon/character index). The plot is very character-based(for now), so this just provided a bit of background. [/blockquote]
