"Archangel Gabrielle, you are to be sent down to Earth. There have been stirrings of tension, even wars, among the people and creatures. We need you there to keep the peace." Gabrielle nodded as she listened to Michael. Even though she thought this should technically be his job, since he was higher up, she had to agree that they needed her there. Since the beginning, she had gone to Earth as a messenger and had grown fond of God's children. Truly, Gabrielle was meant for this, despite possibly being a bit unqualified.
"Yes, Michael. But I have one request." She looked up at Michael, her long hair falling back from her face. Michael nodded a little, for he had an idea of what she was going to ask. "I'd like to start off in the form of a newborn human. Make my wings invisible, take my Heavenly memory from me, until I come of age. I wish to become truly accustomed to life on Earth so I can better understand the situation." Gabrielle was saddened at the thought of losing her wings, if only for a short period of time, but was okay with this. She was willing to make the sacrifice to fulfill her duty, as any archangel would be.
"You are positive this is what you want? If you are taken into a sinful environment and become sinful yourself, you might not ever regain your true self." Michael said. He felt obligated to ask, even though he knew what Gabrielle would say. They knew everything about each other, after all.
"Yes. This is what I want. Besides, there are plenty of other angels down there; guardians. If anything, they'll sense who I am and take care of me." Gabrielle was only fifty-percent sure of this, but it would make Michael feel better. He frowned, just a little bit, then nodded. Not even a second passed by before Gabrielle began to fall.

Marian and Joseph Carter had always wanted a child. They had fallen in love at an early age, 17, and had been together through high school and college. Now that they were married, they were more than ready to bring a child into the world. Unfortunately, they found out that having a baby wasn't in their cards.
The first time Marian found out she was pregnant, the two were overjoyed. They didn't care if it was a boy or girl or if it had six fingers, as long as it was healthy. The first time they went to the doctor, though, they found out they had wished too much. As Marian lay on the table, her still-flat stomach exposed, the doctor searched frantically for a heartbeat. It couldn't be found. The fetus had died.
The second time Marian got pregnant, she and Joseph didn't tell anyone. They barely even mentioned it themselves in fear of getting jinxed. For the first few weeks, everything was normal. Marian even had a bought of morning sickness! And then, she miscarried. Her and Joseph were distraught; they thought something was wrong with them, or that God was punishing them for a sin in their past.
Two weeks later, a baby appeared on their doorstep.
She was in pink swaddling blankets and in a basket, like a present. There was even a bow on the side. How strange, thought Marian as she read the note. "We cannot care for her, but know she'll be safe with you. Her name is Gabrielle. She's a month old today." It was January 25th, so she had been born on Christmas. Marian quickly brought her inside, away from the cold, and called Joseph to tell him what happened. He was at work, but left immediately to pick up baby supplies, like formula and diapers. They decided not to tell anyone of how they found little Gabby, and instead told everyone that Marian had wished to keep her pregnancy secret after miscarrying. No one questioned it.

Gabrielle led the life of a pampered Christian girl. From the first day of kindergarten, you could tell she would be the top of the social ladder, the girl that was genuinely nice to everyone but still lorded (pardon the pun) their power every once and a while.
Gabby was a very happy, outgoing child. She made friends extremely easily and was always one to share her toys. A bright future was already shinning for her. Her childhood was uneventful; there were birthday parties, fifth grade graduations and Cotillion meetings. Gabby was the model child. Then, high school hit.
Gabrielle's faith was really trusted from the first day, when an older guy asked if she wanted pot.
Gabrielle walked down the hall, taking in the sights and sounds of high school. It was all so exciting! Lockers, the smell of new books, everyone in their first-day best...Gabby really loved it. Learning was fabulous, too; Gabrielle had always been one to eat up the nearest book, especially historical fiction. As she made her way to her first class, World Religions with Mr. Compton, Gabrielle was stopped by another student. He was obviously older, and Gabby had to guess he was a senior from the "I don't want to be here, I've had enough of this" vibe he was giving off. If you ignored the dark clothes (Gabby preferred brights or pastels) and the piercings (he had large gauges, a lip ring and his eyebrow pierced), he could be considered cute. His sandy hair definitely had a nice flop to it.
"Hey, you must be new here. I'd remember a pretty face like your's." He smiled and Gabby's face heated up, her cheeks turning a bright red that would rival a tomato.
"I'm Gabrielle Carter," Gabby stuck her hand out and he gazed at it, confused, for a moment before shaking. Hmm, his manners were a bit off, it seemed. Hand shakes were a must!
"Cool. I'm Jude," Jude smiled, showing off a tongue ring. Fab. "Look, Gabs," Gabby frowned just a little. He hardly knew her! Jude was definitely not on the right level to call her Gabs. That was reserved for best friends. Jude continued, "I have a friend. He's a vampire," Jude looked pointedly at her, like this should impress her. Honestly, it just frightened her a bit. Gabrielle had never met a vampire before,so all she knew were the rumors. "He's got a nice bit of weed. You wanna check it out?" Jude seemed to believe she would say yes, because he grabbed her arm and began to pull her after him. Oh, heck no!
"Excuse me? Jude? I'm not into that!" Gabrielle tried to pull her arm away, but Jude's grip just got tighter. "Hey! Let go!" Jude merely chuckled. Okay, this wasn't going good. Didn't anyone see that she was being forcibly dragged off to certain doom? Helloooo! Gabby looked at her fellow classmates and noticed that those who did notice had this strange look of pity on their faces, but weren't doing anything to help. What the heck?!
And then, her prayers were answered in the form of a tall, muscular hottie in a letter jacket. "She said let go, Jude." His voice was deep and commanding, like he knew everything. Jude, who was way shorter and out-muscled, let go before skulking off. Hottie came up to Gabby, placing a hand on her shoulder. "You okay?" He asked. Gabby nodded, in awe over his saving her. What a knight in shining armor! Letter-jacket-guy smiled and said, "I'm Matt. Why don't you come with me? I'll take you to class."
"Nice to meet you," Gabby smiled. "I'm Gabrielle Carter, but you can call me Gabby." She began to walk next to Matt, who seemed to know what her first class was. It never occurred to Gabby that she hadn't told him.
From that day on, Gabby's status as cool It Girl of the freshman class was solidified. She was hanging out with Matt Philips, the senior quarterback, on the first day of school. There was nothing cooler than that. A week later, Gabrielle and Matt were an official couple.
The year was amazing. Gabby was a cheerleader (because of course, the football captain's girlfriend had to cheer) and she was easily the most popular girl in her class. Everyone loved the sweet, outgoing freshman, who would talk to anyone, even the lowliest on the social ladder. She wore her crown well.
And then, at the end of the school year, Matt had to go away for college. Gabrielle knew it was coming; he was a senior, after all, who had stellar grades that weren't even close to second-year-senior material. They loved each other, though, and swore that even though he was going two states away on a football scholarship, they would stay together. Nothing would keep them apart; a relationship like their's could be held together through Skype and phone calls, right?
Wrong.
A few months into Gabby's sophomore year, she went to call Matt. He didn't answer his cell phone, so she called his frat house. Frankie, one of Matt's best friends and, by extension, a good friend of Gabrielle's, answered the phone.
"Hey, this is Frankie." Gabby smiled. Frankie was Matt's best friend, he would know where her boyfriend was.
"Frankie! It's Gabby!"
"Oh...hey, Gabrielle..." Frankie winced, trailing off. That was strange.
"Um...is Matt there?" Gabrielle began to twirl a strand of hair around her finger, a nervous habit.
"Gabrielle...Gabby. You know Matt's my best friend, but...I can't let this go on any longer. He's cheating on you." Gabby nearly laughed.
"Cheating? You must be seeing things. Matt would never do that to me!"
"Gabby, I know this is hard, but I'm telling the truth. For the past month, Matt's been hooking up with like...a couple different girls."
Oh. She had heard him right.
Gabrielle clenched the phone as she slid down her bedroom wall, collapsing on the floor.
"Oh." It was a strangled response.
"I'm really sorry. He's a total dick." Frankie did sound genuinely sorry, which consoled Gabby for about five seconds.
"I better go." Gabby hung up the phone before Frankie could say anything else.
For the rest of the weekend, Gabrielle cried and cried and ignored her phone. She did the typical girl-who-was-cheated-on things: watched The Notebook, ate ice cream, burned all the pictures of her and Matt. Her parents soothed Gabrielle's hurt ego and heart as best they could, and Gabrielle held her chin up high and acted like nothing was wrong. She could find another, better, guy for her. And besides; she lost Matt, but there was no way she was losing her social standing. No, Gabby was going to be strong.

BUT YOU WEREN'T MEANT FOR THIS LOVE[/size]
A few weeks later, Gabby's memory as the Archangel Gabrielle came flooding back to her. It was highly debilitating, as she often had migraines and flash backs that rendered her unconscious. She remembered her conversation with Michael, how she chose to come down and lose her wings and memory. She remembered the Fall, too. It scared her; even though she hadn't had her wings ripped from her back and it was a voluntary thing, the Fall was still fast and painful. She couldn't fly, she was as vulnerable as a human and she was slowly forgetting who she was. But now, thank God, Gabrielle was back. It pleased her that she had stayed the same, and that her memories were back. She was the same Gabby, just with more knowledge (wow, were classes easy now).
And then the wings came back.
Gosh, that was true pain. She thought her migraines were awful, but they had nothing on this. It was bloody, too. First came the slits. She woke up in the middle of the night, screaming, covered in blood. Her parents (who had been told of her Heavenly history) watched in horror as wings emerged, no, pushed through her back. Gabrielle screamed in pain as the wings kept coming, expanding in their full glory. They were lush and white, soft as a rabbit but strong as an ox. The full span looked to be at least eight feet. Gabby cried in relief, lingering pain, and joy. Her wings were back, she could fly again!
Gabby couldn't avoid school, obviously. She did know, though, that there were other angels (either fallen or guardians) that were around St. Louis and even other creatures in her school. Were-beings, vampires, magicians. They were all over, mingling in with the humans. At school, Gabrielle left a wake of ooo-ers and awe-ers as she walked down the hall, her wings tucked nicely behind her. It was now out that she was an angel, an archangel, and no one seemed to mind. Cheerleading was a bit difficult from then on, though...
